Michele Anderson told police she was tired “of everybody stepping on her.” (She was referring to members of her own family.) She had also decided that if they ‘did not start showing her some respect’ by December 24th, Christmas Eve, she would kill them all.
And that’s exactly what she did!
Michele Anderson
Christmas Eve 2007. The sky was growing dark and ‘the moment’ was quickly approaching. Michele Anderson and her live in boyfriend, Joseph McEnroe, armed themselves with several handguns they had purchased over the summer and drove a mere 200 yards from their trailer in the back forty to Wayne and Judy Anderson’s small white house.
There was a little family gathering about to commence and they wanted to arrive early.
According to testimony, upon arrival, Joseph McEnroe made his way through the small house to a back room where he found Judy Anderson wrapping Christmas gifts for her grandchildren, who were soon to arrive. Michele Anderson encountered her father, Wayne Anderson, first and fired her 9 mm handgun right at him. But she missed. Hearing the shot, Mrs. Anderson and McEnroe ran immediately into the room, where McEnroe shot Wayne in the head. As Judy began to scream, McEnroe turned and instantly shot her. She fell to the floor. McEnroe said “she continued to scream.” Court documents revealed that Joseph “apologized to her and then shot her again, this time in the head,” silencing her forever.
Two Down, Four To Go
With Michele Anderson’s parents now dead, the couple swiftly prepared for the arrival of her brother, Scott Anderson, and his family. They were coming from Black Diamond for a planned Christmas Eve dinner.
Michele and McEnroe dragged the bodies to an outdoor shed then used blankets and towels to clean up blood. Afterwards burning this evidence in a fire pit out back. Then they waited.
Michele Anderson later told police that she had lent her brother some money and it hadn’t been repaid. She wanted a little respect and he wasn’t coughing that up either. It was payback time.
Michele confronted her brother when he arrived but he charged her when she pulled out the gun. She told detectives she thought she shot him at least twice, but maybe as many as four times. She said she also shot Erica twice before the wounded woman scrambled over the couch and tried to call for help.
Erica made her way to a cordless phone and managed to dial 911. But she would never get the message sent. Before she had a chance to speak, Joseph McEnroe — armed with a .357-caliber Magnum handgun — walked up and pulled the phone from her hand and popped out the batteries. McEnroe “allowed Erica to huddle terrified with her young children momentarily before he shot her point blank in the head.”
The Apologizes
“McEnroe made sure to mention in his statement that he apologized to Erica after she pleaded with him not to shoot her, saying ‘… You don’t have to do this,’ ” according to the court papers. “Joseph McEnroe recalled how he looked at her and said, ‘… Yes, we do.’ “
McEnroe shot 5-year-old Olivia Anderson in the head “at very close range,” said Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg. Then he turned to 3-year-old Nathan Anderson, the last survivor in the home.
The little boy had picked up the batteries McEnroe had torn from the phone and held them up in one hand. McEnroe told detectives the child gave him “… the look of complete comprehension … as if he understood.” McEnroe then shot him in the head as well.
“I didn’t want them to turn us in,” Joseph McEnroe explained later.
