MOLLY HUDGENS USES HER TRAINING, WIT AND COMPASSION
A middle school counselor, Molly Hudgens, from Ashland City, Tennessee, successfully convinced a 14-year-old student to hand over a loaded gun , that he’d carried into the Sycamore Middle School on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The young man, a minor child who can not be identified due to his age, finished his first period class, then went to see the middle school counselor, Molly Hudgens. The student asked if he could talk to her because she ‘was the only one he could talk to.’
Molly Hudgens, later stated, that ‘she could sense something was terribly wrong and the boy made comments which caused her to become concerned.’
MOLLY HUDGENS USES HER WITS AND HER TRAINING
During the course of the conversation, Molly finally just came out and asked the student ‘if he had brought a gun to school.” He said nothing at that moment but responded by revealing a loaded Taurus Millennium 45-caliber handgun that he had tucked into his waistband. He also revealed that he had a spare magazine with extra ammunition, as well. He then freely told Ms. Hudgens that he planned to come to school and shoot teachers and police, but he was hesitant to follow through with the plan and was hoping she (Hudgens ) would talk him out of it.
As the young man continued to talk, the councilor casually sent out text messages, alerting other staff members of her situation.
The conversation between the two went on for nearly an hour. In that time, Molly Hudgens was able to persuade the student into surrendering the gun into her possession.
WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
The teen was taken into custody by a school officer, with no shots fired and no one hurt. He is being held in the Williamson County Jail on possession of a weapon on school property and threatening school employees.
The case is now under investigation and Molly Hodgens goes down in the history books as a hero.
