An 18-year-old Ohio woman is accused of livestreaming the rape of her 17-year-old friend. She used her cell phone and a social media app. She said she was recording the rape as evidence.
Marina Lonina plead not guilty to multiple charges including rape, kidnapping, sexual battery and pandering sexual matter involving a minor.
A judge set bond for the New Albany High School student at $125,000.
The man accused of the rape, 29 year old, Raymond Gates, also plead not guilty. The judge set his bond at $300,000.
Marina and her girl friend had met Raymond at a Columbus Mall, for the very first time, the day before the incident. He was purchasing a bottle of vodka and encouraged the girls to meet up with him the next day. (Which they did!)
She just kept filming a rape!
Throughout the assault, Marina can be heard ‘giggling and laughing’ in the back ground as she used her cell phone to film the assault on her friend and livestream it out on Periscope for all members to see!
(Another friend, in a different state, saw the livestream and immediately called the police in Columbus.)
Marina states that she was trying everything to get her intoxicated friend out of the house where the attack happened. Her feed doesn’t quite reveal that statement to be totally true.
Her attorney states that “she (Marina) does everything possible to contain the situation, even to the point of asking, while it’s being filmed to these Periscope followers, ‘What should I do now? What should I do now?'”
Prosecutor’s didn’t buy it, stating that the evidence, ironically enough handed over by Marina herself, revealed that she (Marina) did very little, if anything at all, to help her girl friend escape her attacker. The 17 year old victim, who can be clearly heard screaming’no’ and ‘stop’ throughout the assault, was not ‘helped’ at all by her so-called friend. Instead, prospectors are convinced, is that Marina “got taken up with all the ‘likes’ that her livestream was getting and simply just continued to film, doing nothing to aid the victim or stop the assault.”
Although Lonina told police she was trying to ‘record the assault as evidence,’ her own behavior throughout the event, said differently to a judge. The charges stand!
Oh…And just a little side note. Marina Lonina is also being charged with livestreaming her friend naked the day before the assault! And that, my friends, is a felony!
