Melvin Bonnell Jr. was convicted of shooting and killing, Robert Bunner, a 23-year-old Cleveland, Ohio man in 1986. He was sentenced to death. The Ohio Supreme Court ordered that Melvin be executed October 18, 2017. That date was rescheduled, moved to February 12, 2020, but received a reprieve in December of 2019, because of what Governor Mike DeWine described as “ongoing problems” in obtaining execution drugs. The execution date has now been scheduled for October 18, 2023.
