Execution Date For Samuel Moreland
The Ohio Supreme Court announced the execution date for Samuel Moreland. Moreland was convicted of a mass killing in 1985 in Dayton, Ohio. He murdered 5 people and left 3 more small children critically wounded and dying.
In 1985, Tia Talbott, her boyfriend Thurston Jones, and her 5 children lived at 35 South Ardmore in Dayton, Ohio. Her mother, Glenna Green, and her mother’s boyfriend (Samuel Moreland) also lived there.
On November 1, 1985, Tia’s sister, Lana Green, and Lana’s three children were all spending the night at 35 South Ardmore with the family.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on the evening of November 1, 1985, Tia Talbott, Thurston Jones and Lana’s son, Gregory Green, left the residence to go to the grocery store. When Tia and the others left, Samuel Moreland and her mother were in their own bedroom. Sometime after the trio had set off for the store, Moreland and Glenna began arguing. Samuel wanted money for alcohol and Glenna refused to give him any.
Angry with his girlfriend, Samuel left the room. When he returned however, he was armed with a rifle. Without speaking, Samuel Moreland pointed the gun at Glenna and pulled the trigger. Moreland then turned and fired on 11 year old Dayron Talbott, hitting her first in the hand as she raised it to cover her head. Laughing at this, Samuel then shot Dayron in the face.
Notorious Mass Murder in Dayton, Ohio
When Tia, Thurston and Gregory returned from the store, they discovered the bodies of Lana (23), Violana (6) and Glenna Green (46). All three lay dead from gun shot wounds to the head. Daytrin (7) and Datwan (6) Talbott each lay dead from multiple, and severe, blunt force traumas to their faces and heads.
Also discovered in the home was Lana’s daughter, Tia Green (5), who had been injured as a result of a gunshot wound to the face; Glenna Talbott (2) suffered numerous abrasions and contusions to her face and upper torso from a beating and Dayron (11) Talbott, suffered with a gunshot wound to her face and hand and had significant skull fractures.
Samuel Moreland was convicted of this mass murder and was sentenced to death.
The execution date for Samuel Moreland is set for July 30, 2025 at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.
