Hinton was sentenced to death in 1985 for two murders he did not commit. The US Supreme Court ruled in 2014 that his defense lawyer had been deficient. Prosecutors admitted that the bullets found at the scene did not match Hinton’s gun; Hinton’s conviction was thrown out by a circuit court judge in April 2015 and he was freed.
