Lorenzo J. Gilyard, Jr. was born on May 24,1950.

He became known as ‘The Kansas City Strangler’, an illusive serial killer who murdered up to 12 women in the Kansas City area from 1977 to 1993.

On April 17, prosecutors charged Lorenzo Gilyard with 10 counts of first-degree murder and two counts of capital murder in connection with the deaths of 11 prostitutes and one mentally ill woman. All were strangled. Eleven were sexually assaulted. Nine were found nude, many of the bodies were posed and several appeared to have been bound at the wrists. Six victims had items tied around their necks. The items included a shoe string, an electrical cord and the victims’ own clothing.

Authorities alleged Lorenzo J. Gilyard Jr. was the serial killer, the man who preyed, for 17 years, on women who walked the streets, that they had been looking for.

Lorenzo was tried on 7 first-degree murder charges. He was sentenced to life in 2007.
